Yes. Our summer lessons run at our established locations, including New York City, Scarsdale, Rye, and Rye Brook, NY; Greenwich, CT; Miami and Palm Beach, FL; and Los Angeles, CA. We additionally offer instruction in the Hamptons during the summer period.
Children in The Alexander Reading Method Program with Reading In PreSchool progress through grade-based benchmarks that support steady development in reading, writing, spelling, and confidence over time. These milestones include:
- Nursery: Development of fine motor coordination, early exposure to letter recognition, phonics sounds, and letter writing when appropriate for the child.
- PreK Year One: Builds on foundational Nursery skills with continued emphasis on letters, sounds, and consistent practice in writing letters.
- PreK Year Two: Strengthens letter writing skills, introduces Level 1 readers, blending practice, and the first 60 words, including 40 high-frequency sight words that are not phonetically decodable.
- Kindergarten: Advances through Levels 2 and 3 before 1st grade, with added instruction in spelling and sentence writing for students who are developmentally ready.
- 1st Grade: Progresses through Levels 4 and 5 while reinforcing spelling and writing skills and preparing students for chapter book reading in 2nd grade.
- 2nd Grade: Enhances reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary through chapter books, while also developing spelling and paragraph writing skills in preparation for 3rd grade.
The goal is to support children in staying 6 to 12 months ahead so they build confidence and are well prepared for more advanced reading demands in later grade levels.
We require a minimum of two weekly sessions for each student. Lessons can be arranged in 30-minute increments or longer depending on the child’s needs.
Yes. We reserve your child’s spot for the school year and bill monthly. If you need to pause, you may do so without extra fees. However, once a spot is given up, we cannot guarantee the same teacher or schedule will still be available later.
