Reading In PreSchool provides early literacy support through in-person tutoring and learning materials based on The Alexander Reading Method. Yes. Summer lessons are available at our standard locations, such as New York City, Scarsdale, Rye, and Rye Brook, NY; Greenwich, CT; Miami and Palm Beach, FL; and Los Angeles, CA. We also extend our program to the Hamptons throughout the summer season.
Children in The Alexander Reading Method Program through Reading In PreSchool follow grade-aligned benchmarks that help build reading, writing, spelling, and confidence gradually over time. These learning milestones include:
- Nursery: Focus on fine motor development, early letter recognition, introduction to letter sounds, and letter formation if the child is ready.
- PreK Year One: Continues Nursery objectives with additional emphasis on consistent practice in letter writing alongside recognition and sound development.
- PreK Year Two: Builds letter writing fluency, introduces Level 1 readers, blending skills, and the first 60 words, including 40 sight words that are not phonetic.
- Kindergarten: Moves through Levels 2 and 3 before entering 1st grade, with added instruction in spelling and sentence construction for students prepared for it.
- 1st Grade: Advances through Levels 4 and 5 while reinforcing spelling and writing abilities and preparing for more advanced chapter reading in 2nd grade.
- 2nd Grade: Strengthens fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary using chapter books, while also focusing on spelling growth and paragraph writing to support transition into 3rd grade.
The purpose is to keep children 6 to 12 months ahead of grade level so they develop strong confidence and are fully prepared for more complex reading as they progress through school.
A minimum of two sessions per week is required for each student. Each lesson can be scheduled for 30 minutes or extended based on the child’s learning plan.
Yes. We hold your scheduled spot for the school year and bill on a monthly cycle. If you need to pause lessons, there is no penalty. However, once a spot is released, we cannot guarantee the same instructor or time availability later.
