Yes. We provide summer lessons at our usual locations, including New York City, Scarsdale, Rye, and Rye Brook, NY; Greenwich, CT; Miami and Palm Beach, FL; and Los Angeles, CA. In addition, we also offer summer instruction in the Hamptons during the warmer months.
In The Alexander Reading Method Program at Reading In PreSchool, children advance through grade-based benchmarks that support the development of reading, writing, spelling, and confidence across each stage of learning. These milestones include:
- Nursery: Development of fine motor skills, introduction to letter recognition, letter sounds, and early letter writing when the child is developmentally ready.
- PreK Year One: Builds on Nursery goals while continuing practice in letter recognition, sounds, and increased focus on forming letters through writing.
- PreK Year Two: Introduction to letter writing mastery, Level 1 readers, blending practice, and learning the first 60 words, including 40 high-frequency sight words that cannot be sounded out.
- Kindergarten: Advancement through Levels 2 and 3 prior to entering 1st grade, along with spelling development and sentence writing for students who are ready.
- 1st Grade: Progression through Levels 4 and 5 while strengthening spelling and writing skills and preparing students for chapter books in 2nd grade.
- 2nd Grade: Development of reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary through age-appropriate chapter books, alongside continued spelling and paragraph writing in preparation for 3rd grade.
The objective is to ensure children stay 6 to 12 months ahead so they gain confidence early and are ready for more advanced and demanding reading work in higher grade levels.
We require a minimum of two sessions per week for each student. Sessions can be scheduled for 30 minutes or longer depending on your preference and the child’s needs.
Yes. We reserve your child’s spot for the full school year, and billing is done on a monthly basis. If you need to pause lessons, you may do so without additional fees. However, once a spot is released, the same teacher or time slot may not be available again later.
