Kindergarten Reading Program in Chelsea

Help your child in Chelsea build the confidence and independence needed to become a stronger reader through the Reading In PreSchool Kindergarten Reading Program. Children strengthen reading fluency, expand vocabulary skills, and continue developing the foundation needed to transition into first grade with greater confidence and enthusiasm.

Through engaging and personalized lessons, young learners improve reading and writing abilities in a supportive environment that encourages steady progress and a love for learning.

Kindergarten Reading Program Curriculum

We use The Alexander Reading Method, a structured phonics based approach that helps children strengthen reading skills through clear and progressive instruction. In Kindergarten, students continue building beyond early literacy foundations while improving reading fluency, pronunciation accuracy, and comprehension skills that support future academic success.

Each child begins with a personalized assessment designed to identify their current reading level, strengths, and learning style. Using this information, lessons are tailored to support steady progress while helping children build confidence and continue developing meaningful reading skills in a supportive environment.

In-Person New York Classes

In-person lessons are provided throughout the year in New York City, Scarsdale, Rye, Rye Brook, and Greenwich, with additional summer instruction available in The Hamptons.

Classes are taught in the home using a play based format that keeps learning interactive and enjoyable while supporting academic growth. With regular one on one instruction and ongoing encouragement, children build the confidence and skills needed to stay 6 to 12 months ahead and transition smoothly into more academically demanding grades.

WHAT YOUR CHILD IN CHELSEA WILL LEARN

Throughout our Kindergarten reading program, children in Chelsea progress through Levels 2 and 3 while continuing to strengthen the reading foundation developed during earlier instruction. Families who choose a two year Kindergarten reading program allow children to move at a more comfortable and gradual pace, typically completing Level 2 during the first year before advancing into Level 3 during the second year. By the conclusion of the program, children are reading with greater independence, writing simple sentences with more confidence, and entering first grade with strong foundational reading and writing skills.

In Level 2, children strengthen their reading skills by:

  • Expanding vocabulary by learning and recognizing new word patterns

  • Strengthening blending and decoding abilities for improved reading accuracy

  • Reading increasingly complex words and longer sentence structures

  • Building stronger reading fluency along with greater confidence during reading activities

In Level 3, children continue progressing with:

  • Strengthening higher level reading comprehension and understanding skills

  • Improving reading fluency while encouraging stronger expression and confidence

  • Providing introductory spelling instruction for children ready to progress further

  • Using sentence writing exercises to reinforce reading and written language development

Each stage of the program is designed to support your child at their current skill level, helping them strengthen meaningful reading abilities while continuing to build confidence as both a reader and learner.

98% Success Rate: Trusted by Families Raising Confident Readers

At Reading In PreSchool, our goal is to help every child feel prepared, supported, and academically confident so they can continue growing successfully for years ahead.

Since 2013, families have trusted our program to help children build strong reading foundations early in their educational journey. With a 98% success rate, we have helped thousands of children strengthen the skills needed to become capable and confident readers before entering more advanced grade levels.

Parents often notice more than improvements in reading ability alone. Many children begin approaching learning with greater excitement, participate more actively in school, and develop a stronger sense of pride and independence in what they are able to accomplish on their own.

Yes. Monthly progress reports are provided throughout the year to help families stay informed about their child’s development and learning progress. Reports are not sent during December, March, and June due to the increased number of school and holiday breaks during those months.

Every child learns differently and progresses at their own pace. For children without processing delays or learning related challenges, and for families who maintain consistent attendance throughout the year without extended breaks, the following timeline serves as a general guideline. It is based on students attending classes twice per week consistently and completing light homework assignments several times during the week.

  • Age 2.5: 3 years
  • Ages 3 to 4: 2-3 years
  • Ages 4.5-5.5: 2 years
  • Ages 5.5 - 6.5: 1-2 years
  • Older ages: 6 months to a year

From our experience, extended interruptions in instruction can significantly affect reading progress. Children who miss classes for one month or more often lose around two months of previously learned material for each month away from lessons, which may result in the program extending beyond the estimated timelines provided above.

Yes. Our Kindergarten reading program is designed to strengthen literacy development through Levels 2 and 3, helping children progress from basic decoding skills into more fluent and confident reading. As students advance through the program, they continue building foundational literacy abilities through structured instruction that reinforces phonemic awareness, expands sight word recognition, and improves accuracy with letter sounds in more advanced words and sentence structures.

Yes. We help support early literacy growth by reinforcing foundational reading skills through guided instruction in blending, decoding, and recognizing words with greater accuracy. As children progress, they continue reviewing key literacy concepts such as phonemic awareness and sight words while strengthening the skills required to stay aligned with advancing elementary level expectations.

Many schools introduce reading using broader teaching methods, and not all programs emphasize structured phonics instruction or individualized pacing. As a result, some children may develop gaps in early literacy skills, particularly when they are encouraged to memorize sight words before fully understanding phonemic awareness and letter sound relationships. Our reading program uses a step by step approach that helps children build confidence and strong foundational skills before progressing into more advanced reading material.

During Kindergarten, we focus on helping children develop greater independence and stronger reading accuracy as literacy expectations continue to grow. Because students begin reading more independently at this level, lessons concentrate on correcting guessing behaviors, strengthening phonics awareness, and helping children recognize when words or sentences do not sound correct. Children also begin managing longer reading passages and more complete written work, which improves both reading comprehension and writing abilities. These foundational skills help prepare students for the increasing academic challenges of first grade.
